After beginning its digital transformation last season, ARTE's 28 MINUTES show has successfully made its interactive shift since the start of this season. Now 100% bi-media, the current affairs magazine hosted by Elisabeth Quin offers internet users a new service: video discussion lounges.

To make it easy for viewers to talk during and after the show, 28 MINUTES provides online chat lounges accessible from their tablet or computer. Each participant can join in via text chat or webcam while watching the program. Viewers can also invite friends to re-watch the latest episode together after it airs. Regularly, they will also be able to chat with that day's guest or a member of the editorial team.
To develop this unique and ambitious project, producer Adventure Line Productions, the digital teams at ARTE and social TV agency Darewin turned to French startup Cybronics and its Watsh service, discovered at the 2013 Futur en Seine international digital festival.
"ARTE is delighted to foster editorial innovation online and enable young startups to demonstrate their expertise in creating new, large-scale offerings for programs such as 28 MINUTES."
– Gilles Freissinier, Director of ARTE's web division.
Watsh, launched during the F4ST competition organized by Orange in April 2013, lets internet users share a virtual couch to watch and comment on videos together remotely. The service leverages the capabilities of the new WebRTC protocol.
Cybronics is a French startup founded in 2010 to develop internet services targeting new internet-connected devices. Cybronics is part of the ESSEC Ventures incubator located at the CNIT in Paris La Défense. Website: www.cybronics.fr
